Empowering Vulnerable Children through Life Skills

Summary

Empowering over 2000 children from poor socio-economic backgrounds with critical life skills through sustainable engagement in sports, creative arts, theatre, IT Skills, mentoring & adventure camps

Project Needs and Beneficiaries:

India has over 2 million children whose basic rights are not being met. These include orphans, abandoned and runaway children, street children & children living in slums. These children have limited or no access to opportunities for life skills development and without which they run a high risk of failing to rise above the vicious cycle of poverty and life on the street. The project will impact over 8000 of these children by 2010-15 and develop in them skills to access a better future.

Activities

Programs in sports, creative arts, IT Skills training, mentoring and adventure camps are used as mediums for life skills development. Each child/youth in the age-group of 5-18 years gets minimum 8-hours of intervention per month.

Why this Project is Important Potential Long Term Impact:

By 2015, the project will help over 8000 children develop critical life skills such as self-esteem, inter-personal and cognitive skills thus enabling them to become employable and substantially improve their chances for integrating with mainstream.

Project Message

I find myself missing my mentor the minute he leaves the centre. He has left me with enough advice and confidence to help me help my friends who go through the same difficulties. I feel confident.
